The bad news: The year ended early in 1976(no shows after 10/15 or so). So, no shows '30 years ago today' for the rest of the year...

The (extremely fuckin') good news: 2007 is coming fast. That means an entire year of re-visiting 1977, 30 years after. Something that should keep us all fat and happy!

I, for one, cannot wait.

Joking in the other replies, so had to add that of the years I saw the boys, 77 was the best (hope none of you fell over--recall I didn't see them til 74 in spite of my early era bias). And it defn has the best shows of the material you all have put me onto post 73 (can't recall the dates, but some from the fall, 77). We really do have to get the doctor to remove some of those Donna wailings from the jams on PitB, SugM, and GSET.

To take you up on that request, while preparing dinner I am throwing in Buffalo may 77 with that classic Comes A time. Since I finshed with yet another listen of the grand daddy of them all, Barton hall, last week I can chalk that one up to this 1977 year end campaign as well.

Personally, I think the band sold out when Mickey joined.

What do you guys mean? I thought the Dead broke up after Pig died...That was the last I heard about them. I thought the stuff here past 71 or so is some collection of wannabees playing without the Man...

Aw fuck! Unacceptable! Just forget about it!! Dickheads!! All of you. I mean that in the nicest, most Christmas-y way.

Possible acceptable reply...

Hoooray for 1977! Good point High Flow. Won't be long before we're all enjoying those shows again!! Thanks man!

Close enough. Pig head.

Pig Head
1. One who loves Pig Pen.
Alt. definition - Stubborn

See: All the guys I USED to respect at LMA.

P.S. - Just heard that cow farts are causing global warming! Those bastards. I knew they had a secret world domination plan.

I think I've coined a new term. Touch-head, Pig Head, both sub-groups of Deadheads.

77 sucks! 86 was their PEAK! : )

Looking forward to lots of 77 revisiting. Should have been doing it with 76 too as I am one of only a couple of people that think 76 is grossly underated

Funny thing is, I'm more of a Pig Era fan myself. You may remember past posts of mine saying, "..in the Pig days, when they were a man's band".

I've always felt that way, but enjoy all the various sounds and styles they morphed through over the years. Not to mention my love for a good argument, so I must defend those years...

I know, I know--just good fun.

Seriously, though, I think there is something to the Pighead thing...I like to think I am not so much that way, BUT it certainly applies to some of my ilk (ie, all of your defns), and I am stubborn about my era (and it coincides precisely to Pig's time with the boys). Maybe if you think on it some more, there will be good ones for the other eras ('touch head' is great, but that just applies to post 87, right?). Clearly we need one for the mid 70s since that is a focal point for a lot of folks here (right?), ie, Keith's era, but we need something better than 'Keithhead' I suppose...keep working on it, man!
